Features

Everything a trip leaves behind, kept.

The route, the words, the pictures — TripLog captures all three with as little effort as possible, then puts them back together on a map, a timeline, and a gallery you can return to for years.

Map trail

Every mile, drawn on the map

Turn on tracking and pocket your phone. TripLog records your position in the background — latitude, longitude, altitude, speed, heading — and replays the whole journey as a trail on a global map. Distance, duration, top altitude, and average speed are computed for every trip, and the map frames itself to exactly where you went.

  • Background GPS recording on iPhone and Android
  • Distance, duration, altitude, and speed stats per trip
  • Manual and imported points alongside live GPS
  • Tracking interval and minimum distance are yours to tune

Dictated journal

Speak it before it fades

The best trip notes are written in the moment — but nobody types paragraphs at a viewpoint. Tap the dictate button, talk, and watch the live transcript become a journal entry stamped with the time and place it happened. Prefer a keyboard? Typed entries are first-class too, on web and mobile alike.

  • Live transcript while you talk, hands mostly free
  • Entries pinned to a timestamp, coordinates, and a place
  • Moods — amazing, good, neutral, rough — so the tone survives
  • Full-text search across every entry you can read

Photos & video

A gallery that knows the where and when

Drag in a day's photos and TripLog reads each file's EXIF data to place it at the right coordinates and the right moment on the timeline — no manual sorting. Video gets a seekable player, audio notes sit alongside, and every item can carry a caption and link to the journal entry or place it belongs to.

  • EXIF GPS and capture time extracted automatically
  • Drag-and-drop multi-file upload with progress
  • Lightbox with captions; video seeking that just works
  • Image, video, and audio — up to 200 MB per file

Offline tracking

Built for the places without bars

The best trips happen where coverage doesn't. On mobile, every track point, journal entry, and photo is queued on the device first and synced to TripLog whenever connectivity returns — in efficient batches, in order, with nothing lost. The app shows you exactly how much is waiting to upload.

  • Capture keeps working in airplane mode and dead zones
  • Track points upload in batches to save battery and data
  • Visible queue depth, so you always know sync status
  • All-or-nothing batch writes — no half-synced trips

Team & org trips

One shared record for the whole crew

A trip is rarely one person. TripLog organizes everything by org — a family, a crew, a survey team — joined with a simple invite code. Everyone captures from their own phone into one shared map and timeline, and roles keep it tidy: members edit their own records, admins manage everything, viewers get read-only access.

  • Owner, admin, member, and viewer roles out of the box
  • One invite code brings new people into the org
  • Trails, places, notes, and photos merge into one timeline
  • Orgs are fully isolated — no data crosses between them

Open & portable

Yours to export, never locked in

Your trips live on the TripLog service, organized into orgs that stay isolated from one another — so a trip is shared with your crew and no one else. When you want your data elsewhere, every trip exports to GPX, GeoJSON, or JSON with one click. Admins can even add custom fields to trips, places, and journal entries that appear in every form instantly.

  • Export everything any time — your data is never trapped
  • GPX 1.1, GeoJSON, and full JSON export for every trip
  • Custom fields and per-role permissions, no code required
  • No ads, no third-party analytics, and your data is never sold
